Date 9-30-06 This U S mail bag was used in Detroit to deliver mail to the ships as they pass by. This bag was put into service as mark 4-70 (April 1970). The Edmund Fitzgerald received it's mail in Detroit by a company called J. W. Westcott Co. of Detroit Michigan. The last time the Fitz received it's mail in Detroit, was by the J. W. Westcott mail boat, on November 6, 1975 at 7:50 pm as it pass under the bridge. This mail bag was in service for many years and was sent out to the ships hundreds of time, The bag was in service from 1970 to 2006. This U S mail bag most likey was used to deliver mail to the Fitz many time in those years. (1970 - 1975). The Fitz crew would have open this mail bag to get it's mail out as it pass through Detroit.
