Roscoe,
I have been so impressed with all the material and new information your web site has provided my family and others. I'm amazed at all the people that are stepping forward with new information about the ship. The 50th Anniversary of the building of this great ship is so special to those who took part in the construction and were associated with her in some way. The construction videos and launching were very interesting to watch and remind us how pride, hard work and determination in building this vessel meant to all involved. I wish my Dad were alive to see this web site and to talk to you. He would have been moved by all the people that have stepped forward and contributed to your web site
I remember watching our old 8 mm films. He was the Stewart on the Robert.C.Norton, the ship is passing by River Rouge, and he is filming the Fitzgerald at dockside under construction. He worked on the R.C.Norton from 1958 through 1960. Captain Peter Pulcer and my Dad worked together most of my dad's career with Oglebay Norton Co. They had a close working relationship and were good friends. What ever ship Capt Pulcer was assigned to, he always had my dad as his Stewart. Ships like the Middleton, Armco, and Reserve to name a few. One day my Dad knew he would be working on the "Fitz" and in 1966, Capt. Pulcer was assigned to the Edmund Fitzgerald. My Dad boarded the boat in Superior, Wisconsin for the first time March 19, 1966.
My Dad surely would have attended the 50th Anniversary of the building of the Edmund Fitzgerald. He would have enjoyed talking to you Roscoe, Ray Ramsey, Richard Orgel, Joseph Fischer and the many others who have contributed their stories and personal relationship with the Fitzgerald. I wish your web site and your interest in the Fitzgerald would have been around prior to 2002. My Dad would have been extremely excited about what you have done and the work that you are doing now. Keep up the great work!
